I’m chuffed to have an essay included in Issue 41 of Nutmeg, the brilliant quarterly magazine about Scottish football. My piece, entitled, And if you know the history… draws on research I undertook with women Celtic supporters and asks why so few women write about the history of the football club they love. The respondents reveal evidence of inequality, discrimination and misogyny, and discuss how they regard themselves to be on the edges of Celtic’s story, despite being as invested as their male counterparts.

My article argues that a gendered historiography results in an unbalanced history that ignores, silences, or sidelines the experiences, contributions and voices of women. It also offers positivity, and to understand in what way, you’ll have to read the article…

I’m a novelist and award-winning documentary filmmaker. My debut novel, 'The Birds That Never Flew', was shortlisted for the Dundee International Book Prize and longlisted for the Polari First Book Prize. 'Almost Then', my second novel, was published by Linen Press in April 2021. I write, produce and direct documentary films and won Royal Television Society Scotland awards in 2015 with 'Jock Stein' and for 'Jim Baxter' in 2016. 'Tommy Burns’ won a Royal Television Society award in 2019 and 'The Women Who Built Glasgow City' won the same award in 2021. I have a PhD in Film and Media from the University of Stirling. I made two children who are now making children too. That's the biggest achievement of all. I live in Glasgow, Scotland and Rathlin Island, Ireland.
