Short story winner!

I’m delighted to say that my short story Keel, an abridged narrative drawn from my as yet unpublished novel of the same name, has been announced as the trophy winner of the Impsired Soundwaves writing competition.

The story is about female friendship and male coercive control and I will be performing it at a showcase event in Portrush on the 10th of October as part of the annual Swell festival.

Thanks so much to the judges for selecting Enoch and Helen’s journey as their winner, and congratulations to the other winners and shortlisted authors (listed below!).

I’m so looking forward to meeting fellow writers, reading my story and of course collecting the trophy, which looks wonderful!

I’m a novelist and award-winning documentary filmmaker. My debut novel, 'The Birds That Never Flew', was shortlisted for the Dundee International Book Prize and longlisted for the Polari First Book Prize. 'Almost Then', my second novel, was published by Linen Press in April 2021. I write, produce and direct documentary films and won Royal Television Society Scotland awards in 2015 with 'Jock Stein' and for 'Jim Baxter' in 2016. 'Tommy Burns’ won a Royal Television Society award in 2019 and 'The Women Who Built Glasgow City' won the same award in 2021. I have a PhD in Film and Media from the University of Stirling. I made two children who are now making children too. That's the biggest achievement of all. I live in Glasgow, Scotland and Rathlin Island, Ireland.
