It’s been a busy time in sport, with a particular focus on women in sport. I’m a member of the Scottish Women and Girls in Sport Advisory Board – the board was established to provide independent advice to the Minister for Public Health and Sport on female participation and awareness raising in all areas of sport and physical activity. The Board’s vision is of a Scotland that has a robust sporting system which drives participation in sport and physical activity amongst women and girls. How good would that be?
On Monday (30th September) our first report, ‘Levelling The Playing Field’ was published and presented to Joe FitzPatrick, Minister for Public Health, Sport and Wellbeing. Our recommendations can be read here.
You can also watch the ‘Forty Minute Forum’ which took place on Tuesday this week featuring some of our board members; myself, Viv Maclaren, Claire Nelson and Gemma Lumsdaine. The forum was broadcast to an invited group of partners and we discussed our ‘Levelling the Playing Field’ Report as well as taking questions from viewers. Here’s a link.
And if that’s not enough of me for the one week, you can also listen to lots more on women in Scottish sport, my life and work in sport, my novel writing, my filmmaking and my current project, a feature-length documentary film about Scotland’s national icon, Elena Baltacha. I was a guest on ‘Let’s Hear It For The Girls’, Maureen McGonigle weekly Rocksport Radio show. You can listen to the Podcast here.
