I was incredibly thrilled to win a Royal Television Society Scotland award at a glitzy ceremony in Glasgow on the 25th of May for Jim Baxter, a documentary film I wrote, produced and directed. The film, produced by my co-owned production company purpleTV, is an intimate portrayal of the personal and professional life of Jim Baxter, one of Scotland’s greatest ever football talents. Tragically, Jim died from pancreatic cancer when he was just 61 years old.
Another of my productions, Tartan Pride, was also nominated for the same award so it was brilliant to be shortlisted not just one but twice! This builds on the success of last year when my Jock Stein film won the RTS award in the same category. Hurrah!
The films were commissioned by BBC ALBA and broadcast on the channel in September of 2014 and 2015, following premiere screenings at the Glasgow Film Theatre.
This year’s RTS award ceremony, held at Òran Mòr in Glasgow, was once again hosted by Catriona Shearer and Sanjeev Kohli. The event celebrates the gold standard in television and production talent in Scotland.
